My Musical Hound

Baron is really something special.. I find him to be much smarter than people would think a dog would be. He loves music! The night I decided to adopt him he was having a hard time recovering from the seizures he had the night before. I sat in his cage for about 5 hours while he was on my lap, concerned because he was severely twitching and was just not my Baron. When his twitching would happen I didn’t want him to focus on that but to focus on me. So I would sing him various songs.. I saw improvement when I sang “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley. He likes songs that have a meaning and purpose. Yepp I know what you’re thinking “oh, fantastic.. this girl lost her mind” no, I just lack the ability to be smart– but I have not completely lost my mind…..last time I checked? He loves when I play my guitar or ukulele. So I’ll play a song on one of them, if he loves it, he lays on my lap. If he likes it he stays in the room. If he isn’t a fan of it, he goes off and shows no interest. I usually only sing him 70’s and 80’s but some Frank Sinatra too. It’s just interesting to see a dog so fascinated with music. Also he proved I’m not too bad on guitar or uke. Ha!

Pain in the Neck!

Ha! My title was witty AND punny! you’ll figure out why.. well, Baron had his second reiki session earlier. Also I had to leave him alone this morning to work at the rescue. I hate leaving him, I just sorta act like a worried mom.. but I love all those greyhounds at the rescue like they were all my own dogs, such amazing dogs. But came home and when unlocking the door I saw a really long nose in the window and I was practically scared shitless.. turns out Baron discovered how to open my door so he had full run of the house….party animal. But he did well! Nothing was ruined or out of place. moving on to the reiki. We’ve been having an issue with a lot of tension and some pain in his lower neck a little bit above the shoulder. So I’ve been trying to do lots of massages for him and stuff.. poor guy! Also she felt some kind of blocking in the mind and he wasn’t as relaxed in this session.. she thinks it may be signs of a seizure in the near future, we don’t really know. He’s doing so well, so he has his third reiki session on thursday so she can work on whatever is blocking. Basically for him his mind is a huge knot, and the reiki is slowly untangling that knot. cause when it’s tangled and things are out of alignment that’s why he goes in to a seizure.. some nerves and what not aren’t communicating with the brain. so by untangling this knot, the seizure’s severity will decrease and we hope for just getting his epilepsy to where it’s basically non existent. I know I know.. “you’re gonna cure epilepsy, you’re flippin crazy.. what are you on? the world isn’t made of rainbows and dreams, kid!” well duh. but saying all the negative things about this is just going to slow him down. So for his sake, we both like to find the silver lining in it.  Words hurt, and Baron doesn’t want to be brought down by the weight of those words. So we’re hanging in there, and nothing is preventing us from that.. cause me and him are a team. Stay classy Baron’s followers!Image

A Greyhound as a Barn Dog.. Whaaaaat??

Yeah, you heard me right! Baron is now a Barn dog as of yesterday. He’s sort of met horses but not as much as he did yesterday. I went to go ride to horses that I’m going to be riding much more often and possibly leasing. One of them was Dakota.. he was obsessed with Baron. Which is funny just cause I’ve never seen a horse so in to a dog before. but he basically gave Baron a horse tongue bath for a good 8 minutes. Very cute and very funny! Then when I was riding around the arena he got to watch while mom watched him and Emma. He was fairly confused and I think he just couldn’t figure out what I was doing. Probably saying “HUMAN! STAY THERE, I SHALL GET A ROPE AND TRY TO STOP THE FAST AND LARGE DOG WITH HOOVES!” that’s what he sorta looked like. Then hopped off and life was good again. Well better turn in for the night, since I have a morning shift at the rescue.. I’ll probably grab a starbucks. That would be smart. Anywho, good night you wonderful people! Greyhound Mobile!

Well Baron and I accomplished one of our huge goals.. we got a Greyhound mobile! It’s a cute little Ford Escape! Car rides were just not enjoyable with a cramped and squished Greyhound in a little tiny Corolla. So I sold my horse, made a good enough profit to put a down payment, and with the help of the best mom in the flippin word, we got the perfect car! Today was his first day riding in it to the barn to watch me go ride some horses. He loves it! we folded down the back seats so now it’s just a big dog bed on wheels! He was tired out from looking at horses so he slept comfortably on his way home with his Corgi sister doing the same. We are all happy! Can’t wait for road trips with these two.. yeah, my dogs are a higher priority than myself.. we got a car for the dogs.. ha! I think he just might be livin large! Amazing Stuff!

So Baron had the communicator talk with him yesterday. It was amazing what he had to say. She was right on about everything too. So I’ll kinda summarize what he had to say. To start off she thought he was eight years old.. he has been through so much in his life that his life has felt much longer than just two years. Also, the litter of puppies are usually taken away from the mother, but in Baron’s case, the mom was taken from his litter. The communicator said what a terrible life his mom had and she can’t figure out what happened to her. But she warned Baron what an awful life he would have ahead of him. He hated his life soo much in Kansas on the racing farm that he basically created his Epilepsy to find a way out of there, even if it meant being put down. He then talked about being at the rescue.. he wasn’t happy there and he also said he would never want to go back and he didn’t want to really talk about it, he was grateful for it, and knew it was a good place but it was not good for him. Then he said how he chose me. He was so appreciative at the rescue when I would spend my extra time just to focus on him as an individual and that I made the time for him. He knew a greyhound back in Kansas that he was extremely close to, and he was put down, but he says this dog was basically his spirit guide. He told him he will be in this rescue for fairly long but he will be in a home that will make all of the hell he’s been through worth it. This was at least a good 3 year process for every little thing to come together and work out. And I noticed all the little things that didn’t happen and did happen that lead him to me. So he was told that there is not a reason to have his seizures, he’s in a place where he will be loved to no end. Basically if he wanted a way out  then the seizures would happen because everything is just a huge knot in his brain and doesn’t align properly sometimes. So we are hoping the seizures will come down noticeably, his happiness will increase and he will be a happy boy! Image

Follow Up to the Reiki

Blehh another late post and another long night of Baron the bed hog! Anywho.. just wanted to say that I see a pretty big difference just from that first reiki session, he has two more coming up. Basically this animal communicator and reiki master’s goal is to heal him to where he will feel more relaxed, decrease any anxiety, minimize the seizures or at least to where they are less severe. But don’t think that I am thinking “this is going to solve the problem and my dog won’t have epilepsy anymore!” no, he will always have it, he will always have limitations that we have to accept.. but if I can just make him more comfortable, that is the focal point here. But I see a difference, he seems more relaxed and playful and he just gets happier and happier every day. It’s a beautiful thing to see a dog go from a rescue where he was turned down time after time, to being the happiest goof ball. I still can’t believe he’s my dog sometimes : )

So tomorrow is the communication session. So tomorrow’s entry, I’ll tell you everything Baron has to say. This should be very interesting! Well.. I didn’t get a picture of him today, so here is a doodle I did of him a little bit ago.. Stay classy Baron’s followers!Image

A Little Bit of a Big Upgrade.

Hey folks, hope all is well with you and your furry friends! So today Baron went for about an hour of a drive today to go see his horse brother’s new owners since he sold to a great home. But here is the funny thing.. Baron is easily the biggest dog I have ever owned (Besides growing up with a German Shepherd, but I didn’t own him) the biggest I have had was an Australian shepherd, she was a smaller Aussie though. Long story short we have little things for little dogs! Geeze.. I can never just get to the point– for instance, I have a small twin size bed… he falls off of it a lot! Which really scares me, cause I’ll wake up thinking he fell and is in a seizure. But no, just a restless sleeper (thank God) and I drive a little Toyota Corolla.. not too Greyhound proof. So some upgrading seems to be the plan. As for the bed, I’m gonna get a bit bigger of one and have it much lower and without springs so it’ll be tons easier for him! Also for the car, we’re saving up for a down payment on a Ford Escape. Cute little SUV so I can fix up the back for the ultimate fun, safe and comfortable Greyhound Transporting! So we’re doing what we can to make Baron’s life the best one he could ever have. So that is it for today, talk to you guys tomorrow. Stay classy Baron’s followers!Image

Reiki on my Hound!

First off I apologize for not squeezing in an entry last night–my bad! Well, today is the first day of Baron’s reiki treatment! I’m really interested in how this will go. He has three reiki sessions this week, so today is his first. Also the same Reiki master will be communicating with him on thursday. I’m sure you guys wanna know what goes on in a Greyhound’s mind. Ha! Within the next few weeks we will also probably get him in for acupuncture. So we have plans.. no, I don’t expect to make his seizures disappear (unless I was Houdini.. then it would be another story!) but I just want him to feel better and be as comfortable as we can make him. My hope is that the seizures will minimize, but I just keep an open mind. He gets such abnormally severe seizures it’s painful just to watch, all you want to do is make him better. So all we can do is just have an open mind, stay positive but also realistic. So I’ll probably get back to you guys later and tell you how the first reiki session went on him. A Little Homesick?

Today Baron has been a little on the restless side, same sorta goes for yesterday but not as bad as today. He’s been extra vocal and whiny.. and when I don’t know what else to do for him. Got him breakfast, he went potty, went for a walk. I kinda think he misses his greyhound friends? He really didn’t “play” with much of the greyhounds at the rescue. The only one I’ve seen him really play with is Josh who is one of the most shy at the rescue. But such a gorgeous dog. The thing he enjoyed the most at the rescue was having this huge fenced in grass area (an agility course) to himself. He has a yard and goes for walks everyday, but probably not as fun since he can’t just full on go in race dog mode.haha! But if you maybe have any idea why he has been whining so frequently, I would love your opinion. Eating has been a little bit easier now that I put chicken broth in it (spoiled little boy) Ah geeze.. I need to think of fun entries. I’m even boring myself listening to this in my head. Anyways, would love anyone’s opinion– greyhound owner or not! Alrighty.. stay classy Baron’s followers! Image

Bit of an Update!

As probably a lot of you know, yesterday was not a good day for Baron. He had four seizures, starting at 6 am. Two of those four were very severe, the fourth one was something I wish I could never see again, but I know I will.. it was just awful. But, we are not going to let these seizures drag us down, it’s just one of those speed bumps you hit on a perfectly smooth road.. am I right? As for today, he is amazing! Actually he had a very speedy recovery and greeted me excitedly when I got home from the rescue. He was even up for his every night walk! Couldn’t say no to that adorable long face so we went about the neighborhood and he couldn’t have been happier. Also, here is something cool.. we’re having a very nice animal communicator talk to him, answer some questions and just give us a chance to listen to him. Also she’ll be doing reiki on him (a natural healing technique, I’m a huge believer in) so again.. if you think I’m crazy or don’t believe in that stuff, skip this entry. Also he’ll be getting acupuncture done probably sometime in the next couple of weeks. Anything to help him, it’s worth a try! So yeah.. um, oh yeah! (I’m thinking as I go here) he got a very nice little leash yesterday, it has his name on it! (thanks mom!) Sorry, I also noticed that I use a lot of parentheses. Well now I’m just blabbing, so here is a picture of Baron and Emma his Corgi sister! Image
